From Gamers to Gooners: Chase Straight makes his mark at Stripchat

Chase Straight made his mark in the video game world, serving as Sr, Global Brand Manager at EA and Community Developer at Ubisoft. We caught up with the brand leading powerhouse to talk about his latest move — joining Stripchat, the industry's leading streaming platform with over 1 billion monthly viewers.

Can you describe your journey from gaming to the adult entertainment industry? What motivated the shift?

It was a bit of a surprising turn. I’d spent over 15 years in the gaming industry, and while I loved it, I started to feel boxed in. I’ve always been passionate about music, fashion, art and while I was able to bring some of that into my work as a brand leader in games, the industry itself is in a tough spot right now.

Costs are up, returns are down, and risk-taking has all but disappeared. Everything has to be safe, broadly appealing, and inoffensive. That’s just not the kind of creative I’m drawn to.I was actually looking into music and fashion when I got a random message on LinkedIn about building a brand team at one of the biggest adult cam platforms in the world. And it just clicked.

Here was a space that still had edge, that welcomed boldness and risk, and that needed a brand voice with real heart behind it.

That felt like where I wanted to be. I also have a lot of empathy for creators in adult because they’re often misunderstood or judged by society. I love an “us vs. them” battle, and I saw an opportunity to make a difference. I want to build a brand that champions the talent behind the platform, that helps them feel proud of who they are and the work they do. That mission, to create something meaningful and unapologetic, was exactly the shift I was looking for.

Is marketing to gamers different from marketing to adult content consumers? If so, describe a few ways they are different or the same.

Honestly, not as much as people might think — there’s actually quite a bit of overlap. Both are dynamic, interactive platforms with constantly evolving content, features, and experiences. In gaming, there’s a concept called “live service marketing,” which is about continuously engaging your audience with updates, events, and community dialogue, not just a big launch and done.

That requires a strong flow of communication between product, marketing, and the community. We’re building the same approach at Stripchat. Whether it’s rolling out new features for users or better tools for models, we have to keep our audiences informed, involved, and excited in real time. That rhythm of constant communication is essential.

Another big similarity is how personal the connection to the platform is. Gamers are deeply passionate. The games they play are often part of their identity. Stripchat is no different. For users, it’s a place where they find authentic connection and live entertainment. For models, it’s their career, their livelihood. That level of emotional investment means marketing can’t be superficial. You have to be thoughtful and intentional, because the brand really means something in people’s lives. And ultimately, both spaces are about interactive digital entertainment. They’re meant to be fun.

At the heart of what we do is joy, connection, and experience, and marketing has to capture that spirit. Whether it's a game or a cam show, you're building moments that make people feel good. That’s a powerful thing.

What are some unique challenges in brand marketing for a platform like Stripchat, and how have you approached them?

The first thing is, let’s be real, the mainstream absolutely hates you. The adult industry is often treated like this big, scary, untouchable space. That creates a lot of barriers in terms of who we can partner with, what platforms we can show up on, and how far we can push. You’re always navigating restrictions, whether it’s social platforms, ad networks, or even event spaces. There’s a constant tension between being visible and being shut down. Of course, for me this is the fun of it.

My approach is to root the brand in something deeper, a clear, meaningful mission that goes beyond just marketing Stripchat as a platform. We want to shift how people perceive camming itself. It shouldn’t live in some hidden corner of the internet.

There’s so much creative and cultural overlap with music, fashion, and lifestyle, and for the models who power our platform, that’s often central to their expression.

By forging those connections, we can help normalize the space and celebrate the incredible, creative, hardworking, and intelligent people who make it all happen. At the same time, let’s not ignore the obvious: adult entertainment is already mainstream. It’s just not treated that way. So we’re in this strange position where we have massive global reach, but still have to walk on eggshells. That means our brand has to be incredibly intentional. We’re playing the long game. Step by step, we’re building trust, pushing boundaries, and finding ways to be bold without burning bridges.

Stripchat is one of the most popular platforms for livestreaming, but has seen competition from sites like OnlyFans. What differentiates Stripchat from other places creators can monetize sexual content?

We don’t really see fansites as direct competitors because they’re built for different needs. To succeed on a fansite, you need to bring your own audience. It’s a tool for monetizing an existing fanbase. What Stripchat offers is traffic.

That’s the number one value we provide to creators: a massive, built-in global audience that’s already on the platform, actively looking for new talent.

We invest heavily in traffic to ensure we remain one of the biggest websites in the world, and we’re constantly evolving our algorithm and recommendation engine to make sure users are discovering exactly the kinds of models they’re drawn to. The system rewards creativity, personality, and niche appeal. The more you lean into your uniqueness, the more the platform works for you.

That scale also changes how models approach their business. On fansites, social media is non-negotiable. You need it to drive traffic. But on Stripchat, many successful models don’t even have a social presence. The traffic is already there. Of course, the most financially successful models are the ones who blend it all. They cam regularly, manage their social accounts, and use fansites to diversify income. We see it all as part of an ecosystem, but for many creators, Stripchat is the foundation.

And for a lot of models, camming is just more fun. It’s live, interactive, and playful. Models put on creative shows, use tip menus and goals, get real-time feedback, and play with engagement tools.

There’s even a bit of game design in how they structure their performance. That energy goes both ways. The immediate attention and the live reactions are personally fulfilling in a way that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. And for creators just starting out, it’s an amazing way to get discovered, build confidence, and start monetizing right away without needing a huge social following to get going.

What emerging trends are you paying attention to as a marketer? New technologies or social media trends that you feel are relevant now and that you’ll be looking to in the future.

One of the biggest cultural shifts I’m paying attention to, more than any single technology, is the continued demand for authenticity. Camming was born from that trend. Years ago, when parts of the adult audience started gravitating toward amateur content, it was driven by a desire for something that felt more real. The rise of live cams came directly out of that moment, where it became less about passive content consumption and more about real-time connection.

What separates cam consumers from traditional adult consumers is that they’re looking for something personal. They want identity, backstory, personality - a human experience. And as a brand, I think we need to keep leaning into that. The most successful creators, whether on Stripchat or social media, are the ones who show up as real people. There’s so much raw personality and unique energy on our platform, and our job is to highlight that, not flatten it.

Of course, we’re also watching emerging technologies like AI-powered sex chat platforms, which are starting to enter the space. But rather than compete on that same playing field, we see it as a reason to double down on what makes Stripchat special: real, live, human interaction.

No matter how advanced the tech gets, there’s something irreplaceable about spontaneity, presence, and emotional feedback in real time. That’s the magic of camming, and it’s where we’ll continue to focus.

It’s still early in my time at Stripchat, and we’re in the process of laying the foundation for the brand and marketing function. But one thing that became clear immediately is that everything in this space runs on personal connection.

Trust is the most valuable currency, and in an industry that’s constantly under scrutiny, building real, meaningful relationships with our creator community is absolutely essential.

The models on Stripchat aren’t just part of the platform, they are the platform. We’re not just in the entertainment business, we’re in the human connection business. That means the best way to grow the brand isn’t through top-down messaging, but by working hand-in-hand with the people who represent us every day. Our focus is on building closer, more collaborative relationships with creators. Not just to shape the brand, but to make the platform more rewarding, fulfilling, and profitable for them.
